Description
This book introduces performers to the elegant classically-inspired music from the world of Louis XIV. The author discusses stylistic elements such as rhythmic alteration articulation dance rhythms and tempo-elements which were mostly conveyed through means other than direct musical notation. Designed with performers in mind this study presents information from seventeenth- and eighteenth-century treatises and applies it to a suite of dances by Franois Chauvon a student of Franois Couperin. The complete edition of Chauvon's Tibiades which is included will be of great interest to those who interpret the works of French composers.
